Winter Wonderland

13 Nov

Every year we gasp at how early Christmas stuff is put out. I for one, act appalled. But if we’re going to be honest here, I secretly love it. I love Christmas. I love the decorations and the lights and the movies and the music (although, that part gets a little old).

I’m not usually one to buy holiday fabric. I never seem to use it. But a few months ago I saw some super cute Christmas fabric that I just “had” to have. I was determined to not let it sit around  for my entire life. I knew whatever I made with it I didn’t want it to be full-on-in-your-face-Christmas. So, I pulled some everyday fabrics and made some wintry pillows. I didn’t intend for them to be so matchy-matchy, but they ended up that way anyway. All in all, I think they came out great. And maybe I can use them in July too (kidding).

I’d like to say that I planned out the third pillow perfectly and it was all my planning that paid off. But really I just used scraps from the third pillow. I had all these triangles left over. So, I sewed them together. I ended up with 4 blocks of perfect wonky star points. It took about 20 minutes to piece it all together and I didn’t even have to cut anything out aside from the border to make it fit the pillow form.

I also added some precious Cosmo Cricket fabric I’ve been saving for a long time. Image

And a few little patchworky details with some favorite fabric that I only have a Fat Eighth of (the bows). I think they’re a Japanese print and I got them from Ayumi‘s shop a while back.  Don’t click on that link unless you want to be really tempted to buy cute fabric. It was hard, but I hacked it right up because I knew it would make this project even better. I’m tempted to run right out and buy more, but I’m not going to. I also used up a lot of the blue Hope Valley print, which I am also tempted to run right out and buy yards and yards of. But instead I’ll admire my pillows and be proud of myself for using up precious pieces of my stash.

Now I’m off to finish watching Love Actually with my new throw pillows (they love that movie).

Love Actually! Is there a better Christmas movie? I don’t think so. My sister and I get together to watch it every year.

These are great. I love that you are using so many favorite prints!
